Overview of Services:
Heartland Behavioral Health Services offers a series of comprehensive programs on its 50-acre campus in Nevada, Missouri.  Inpatient emergency care is provided for all children and adolescents ages 3 to 18, and up to 21 if they still function as adolescents.  Residential treatment is available for adolescents, males and females,  ages 12 to 18 for behavioral disorders, for young men ages 12 to 18 for sexual abusive behaviors and young women ages 12 to 19 for self injurious behaviors relating to trauma.

SPECIALTY PROGRAMS:

A residential treatment program in a secured locked setting treating Children ages 5-12 and adolescents ages 12-17.  The program utilizes a wide variety of therapeutic treatments.  Each patient participates in individual, family and group therapy.  Other therapeutic activities include recreational therapy, the challenge by choice ropes course, addiction groups and various specialty groups.  In addition, Willow Springs has a state licensed private school providing kindergarten through high school level education to all children and adolescents in residence at Willow Springs Center.

A residential treatment program in a secured locked setting treating Children ages 5-12 and adolescents ages 12-17.  The program utilizes a wide variety of therapeutic treatments.  Each patient participates in individual, family and group therapy.  Other therapeutic activities include recreational therapy, the challenge by choice ropes course, addiction groups and various specialty groups.  In addition, Willow Springs has a state licensed private school providing kindergarten through high school level education to all children and adolescents in residence at Willow Springs Center.

Overview of Services:
Heartland Behavioral Health Services offers a series of comprehensive programs on its 50-acre campus in Nevada, Missouri.  Inpatient emergency care is provided for all children and adolescents ages 3 to 18, and up to 21 if they still function as adolescents.  Residential treatment is available for adolescents, males and females,  ages 12 to 18 for behavioral disorders, for young men ages 12 to 18 for sexual abusive behaviors and young women ages 12 to 19 for self injurious behaviors relating to trauma. 

  • 24-hour a day, 7 days a week crisis evaluation and admission

  • Full range of services – Residential, Intensive Treatment and Sexual Abusive Youth (SAY) (ages 12-18); and Self-Injurious Behaviors (Safe Haven) (ages 12-19)

  • On-site accredited school for residential placement

Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health is a non-profit, JCAHO accredited, 87 bed acute psychiatric and dual diagnosis (psychiatric and substance abuse) treatment facility in Rockville, MD.  Potomac Ridge  provides outpatient chemical dependency services for adolescents and adults and operates a partial hospital program for adolescents.   The Ridge School, a special and general education school fully accredited by the Maryland State Dept. of Education, is housed at the Potomac Ridge campus and serves adolescents from Montgomery and neighboring counties

Specialty Programs:

  • Specialized Dual Diagnosis Treatment:   Adolescents who struggle with depression, anxiety or behavioral problems often turn to drugs or alcohol.  Potomac Ridge offers a full range of substance abuse education and treatment services.  Adolescents treated in the inpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential treatment programs for psychiatric problems also receive either substance abuse education or substance abuse treatment.  (The residential treatment center is not currently TRICARE Certified.  The partial hospitalization program is currently TRICARE Certified).
  • Inpatient Psychiatric/Substance Abuse Services for Adolescents: The Chesapeake Unit provides 24 hour a day inpatient care for adolescents whose acute symptoms require a safe and structured therapeutic environment.  This inpatient unit utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach.  The team includes psychiatric, social workers, case managers, psychiatric nurses, expressive therapists and mental health technicians who work with the individual and family.  The goal of treatment is to stabilize a teen's psychiatric symptoms , provide behavior modification treatment to manage behaviors, and to provide substance abuse education and treatment.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program: The Intensive Outpatient Program provides intensive evening treatment up to three nights a week to adolescents with substance abuse problems, or a combination of substance abuse, emotional and psychiatric problems.   Programming includes identification of psychological stressors that lead to substance abuse, drug and alcohol education, addiction treatment following the 12 step model, and relapse prevention education and treatment.
  • The Partial Hospitalization Program for Adolescents: Provides structured daytime treatment for adolescents who need more intensive care for psychiatric or substance abuse symptoms than traditional outpatient care provides, yet show are stable enough to return home each evening.  Programming includes group therapy,behavior modification, and attention to substance abuse issues.  Educational services are provided so that teens can remain current in school during their treatment. Patients can be referred directly to partial hospitalization if clinically appropriate, or can be stepped down from inpatient treatment as part of their discharge plan.  Door to door transportation is provided for Partial Hospitalization Program by Potomac Ridge.

Poplar Springs Hospital provides a therapeutic environment designed for the treatment of behavioral and emotional disorders, adolescent sexual offending, drug and alcohol abuse, and other issues that compromise productive daily functioning.  These may include depression, stress, anxiety, phobias, self- injury, suicidal thoughts, grief, physical, sexual or emotional abuse, as well as acute psychiatric crisis conditions.
               A family approach is encouraged for patients and their families to function as a unit.  This approach provides positive outcomes and long term success following discharge.
              Poplar Springs Hospital is Medicaid approved and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Heath Care Organizations.  This is also a Tricare approved facility and is available for eligible members of the military and their families.

 Adult Acute Services
The Adult program is structured to provide a supportive and therapeutic environment in a supervised setting.  Treatments and modalities are designed to reduce symptoms while enhancing personal and interpersonal functioning.  Psychiatric Intensive Treatment is offered for those patients in need of additional services.

  • Using behavior modification, residents learn new coping techniques, consequences, limits and socialization to step down to a lesser level of care.

  • Attend on grounds VA licensed school 12 months/year

  • Therapy -individual, group, family (including long distance), substance abuse, recreational therapy (includes ROPES course, swimming pool, community outings) and special issues (anger mgt., grief, discharge, readiness, etc.)
