-
Emotionally disturbed children with
psychiatric illness;
-
The Child Program provides psychiatrically
and medically managed residential treatment for emotionally disturbed youth
and is located on the Kempsville Campus in Norfolk, Virginia. The
Child Program is designed to meet the developmental needs of the young
child and those of latency age who require a high degree of nurturing, adult
supervision and role modeling with opportunities to learn through
play. Therapists focus on decreasing aggression and improving impulse
control and frustration tolerance within the resident's familial and peer
relationships. Behavior management for child residents is monitored
via a point and level system through which increasing responsibility is
demonstrated and extra privileges are earned. Appropriate educational
services are also provided.
-
We use a short-term stabilization approach
that is an important program component. Critical to the success of
this intensive services plan is the aftercare support services and providers
who actively participate in the resident's treatment planning, treatment,
and discharge planning.
-
The Child Program also offers a
comprehensive track for sexually reactive children who require a
multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment to help them overcome their
sexual trauma and disruptions in their development.
The Adolescent Program:

-
Males and females;
-
Emotionally disturbed youth with diagnosis
of psychiatric illness;

social skills groups, and leisure skills groups.
-
A chemical dependency treatment track for
dually diagnosed adolescents (mental health/substance abuse) is available
with this program.
-
An important component of the program is
our Short-Term Stabilization approach. Requirements for the
Short-Term Stabilization approach include 1) face-to-face family treatment
on a weekly or bimonthly basis, supplemented by telephone sessions on off
weeks; 2) identification of an aftercare mental health provider to
facilitate family treatment in the resident's home community and participate
in telephone family treatment sessions; 3) more frequent therapeutic leaves
of absence; 4) the availability and accessibility of home-based or other
wraparound services as recommended in the Aftercare Plan by The Pines

Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health is a
non-profit, JCAHO accredited, 87 bed acute psychiatric and dual diagnosis
(psychiatric and substance abuse) treatment facility in Rockville, MD.
Potomac Ridge provides outpatient chemical dependency services for
adolescents and adults and operates a partial hospital program for adolescents.
The Ridge School, a special and general education school fully accredited by the
Maryland State Dept. of Education, is housed at the Potomac Ridge campus and
serves adolescents from Montgomery and neighboring counties
Specialty Programs:

Specialized Dual Diagnosis Treatment:
Adolescents who struggle with depression, anxiety or behavioral problems often turn
to drugs or alcohol. Potomac Ridge offers a full range of substance abuse education
and treatment services. Adolescents treated in the inpatient, partial
hospitalization, and residential treatment programs for psychiatric problems also receive
either substance abuse education or substance abuse treatment. (The residential
treatment center is not currently TRICARE Certified. The partial hospitalization
program is currently TRICARE Certified).
-
Inpatient Psychiatric/Substance Abuse Services for Adolescents:
The
Chesapeake Unit provides 24 hour a day inpatient care for adolescents whose acute symptoms
require a safe and structured therapeutic environment. This inpatient unit utilizes
an interdisciplinary team approach. The team includes psychiatric, social workers,
case managers, psychiatric nurses, expressive therapists and mental health technicians who
work with the individual and family. The goal of treatment is to stabilize
a teen's
psychiatric symptoms , provide behavior modification treatment to manage behaviors, and to
provide substance abuse education and treatment.
-
Intensive Outpatient Program:
The Intensive Outpatient Program provides intensive evening treatment up to
three nights a week to adolescents with substance abuse problems, or a

substance abuse, drug and alcohol education, addiction treatment following
the 12 step model, and relapse prevention education and treatment.
-
The Partial Hospitalization Program for Adolescents:

daytime treatment for adolescents who need more intensive care for psychiatric or
substance abuse symptoms than traditional outpatient care provides, yet show are stable
enough to return home each evening. Programming includes group therapy,behavior
modification, and attention to substance abuse issues. Educational services are

Specialty Programs:
The
Child Program:
-
Ages 5-11;
-
Males and females;
-
Emotionally disturbed children with
psychiatric illness;
-
The Child Program provides psychiatrically
and medically managed residential treatment for emotionally disturbed youth
and is located on the Kempsville Campus in Norfolk, Virginia. The
Child Program is designed to meet the developmental needs of the young
child and those of latency age who require a high degree of nurturing, adult
supervision and role modeling with opportunities to learn through
-
Ages 12-18;
-
Males and females;
-
Emotionally disturbed youth with diagnosis
of psychiatric illness;
-
This comprehensive mental health program
provides psychiatrically and medically managed residential treatment for
emotionally disturbed youth and is located on the Kempsville Campus in
Norfolk, Virginia. Residents in The Adolescent Program participate in
a comprehensive range of therapies, academics, and prescribed therapeutic
activities including individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy,
social skills groups, and leisure skills groups.
-
A chemical dependency treatment track for
dually diagnosed adolescents (mental health/substance abuse) is available
with this program.
-
An important component of the program is
our Short-Term Stabilization approach.
Treatment Team; and 5) the availability and accessibility of recommended
post-discharge educational services. Residents accepted for Short-Term
Stabilization will be continuously assessed for appropriateness as
participants of the program.
Diagnoses Treated: Depressive
disorders, trauma disorders, bi-polar disorder, ADHD, schizoaffective disorder,
substance abuse, oppositional and aggressive behavior, conduct disorder,

Specialty Programs:
The
Child Program:
-
Ages 5-11;
-
Males and females;
-
Emotionally disturbed children with
psychiatric illness;
-
The Child Program provides psychiatrically
and medically managed residential treatment for emotionally disturbed youth
and is located on the Kempsville Campus in Norfolk, Virginia. The
Child Program is designed to meet the developmental needs of the young
child and those of latency age who require a high degree of nurturing, adult
supervision and role modeling with opportunities to learn through
-
Ages 12-18;
-
Males and females;
-
Emotionally disturbed youth with diagnosis
of psychiatric illness;
-
This comprehensive mental health program
provides psychiatrically and medically managed residential treatment for
emotionally disturbed youth and is located on the Kempsville Campus in
Norfolk, Virginia. Residents in The Adolescent Program participate in
a comprehensive range of therapies, academics, and prescribed therapeutic
activities including individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy,
social skills groups, and leisure skills groups.
-
A chemical dependency treatment track for
dually diagnosed adolescents (mental health/substance abuse) is available
with this program.
-
An important component of the program is
our Short-Term Stabilization approach.
Treatment Team; and 5) the availability and accessibility of recommended
post-discharge educational services. Residents accepted for Short-Term
Stabilization will be continuously assessed for appropriateness as
participants of the program.
