Compass Intervention Center is an intensive residential treatment program designed to address general psychiatric, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis disorders.  Compass provides services for children ages 6 to 11 and adolescents ages 12 to 17.  Compass is licensed for 108 residential beds and currently operates at a capacity of 92.

Compass is unique in the Memphis market as it is the only free-standing, privately owned, intensive residential treatment facility and the only Tricare certified program in Memphis, TN.  Patients attend therapeutic program activities and school daily.  Patients are separated by age and sleep separated by gender.  Compass is a medical model program with 24-hour nursing in a secure environment.

The program model at Compass has been effective with impressive outcomes.  The program demonstrates excellence in many areas of patient satisfaction, including the Satisfaction Performance Improvement focus, which is driven by the satisfaction data collected at discharge.  The percentage of patients reporting improved outcomes is reported over time and is compared against the national aggregate score of all residential programs in our monitoring group.  Our program is consistently in the top ranking (top quarter) when compared to other residential programs.

  • Specialty therapeutic groups include:  Art Therapy; Dance Therapy; Animal Assisted Therapy; Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; and Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, and Questioning support group
  • Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Team (Psychiatry, Clinical, Nursing, Educational, Recreational, Utilization Management)
  • Introduction to 12-step AA model
  • Average length of stay is 120 days

Admission Criteria

  • Children ages 6 to 11 and Adolescents ages 12 to 17
  • Males and Females
  • Average Full Scale Intelligence Quotient of 70 or above
  • Parent support and treatment commitment
  • Diagnosed psychiatric disorder as described in the DSM-V
  • Recent high-risk of dependency behaviors indicating severely impaired judgment
  • Emotional and/or behavioral problems escalating to a level requiring 24-hour care and supervision
